Background : Tortured 26/05/1942 onwards and returned to Battalion 24/06/1942. 08/10/1942 boarded hellship Kenkon Maru suffering from dengue fever. 08/05/1943 accused of lying to the Japanese (that a bugler wasn't available) and sentenced to stand for 72 hours. He served 24 hours only because the Force was moved next day. AWM has (id PRMF0064) copy of typed version of diary during period as P.O.W. of the Japanese. Early part of diary destroyed by rain in Java, later part disappeared in Thailand. Includes index.
