In connection with the Harry Garrard appeal fund a few former 2/2 Pioneer Battalion members made a combined effort towards assisting the widow. Mr. Garrard was drowned at Ballina recently. He was known as "Palooka" to in the battalion. He saw action with the 2/2 Pioneers in New Guinea in the Markham and Ramu Valley campaign, also in the landings and subsequent operations at Tarakan and Balikpapan.
