Pictured are the Eternal Flame and the 12.5 metre high Cenotaph on the west side of the Shrine's Forecourt. The Eternal Flame was lit by Queen Elizabeth 2 in February 1954. The Cenotaph represents six men in the battle-dress of the Navy, Army and Air Services, carrying a bier on which lies a dead comrade. The names of the theatres of war where each of the services fought in World War 2 are inscribed on the pillar. Photo courtesy of W. Stagoll.

Pictured are the three flagpoles on the east side of the Shrine's Forecourt which fly the Australian flag and the State and service flags in rotation. On special occasions the flags of Australia's allies, or the Unit Colours of service units, are flown. The 2/2 Pioneer Battalion Flag / Unit Colour is being flown on the right flagpole.
