Background : 57 years old when enlisted but dyed moustache and hair so would be accepted in 2nd AIF. World War 1 : Landed at Gallipoli, wounded and invalided home. Returned to fight in France where he sustained gas poisoning and was mentioned in despatches. Found to be still suffering effects of the gassing when evacuated to hospital.
